IMPORTANT NOTICE: This design has an error in the Arduino compatibility pins - the digital pins are 0.2 inches and not 0.16 inches apart, making it very hard to correctly stack with existing shields. We are offering this board for those of you who do not need the Arduino compatibility feature. However, please note that the Port C header is on a 0.05 inch center, making it somewhat hard to cover the entire surface with prototype board. Please stay tuned for the corrected version with Arduino compatibility mode.
The Megavore is an Atmel AVR xMEGA 128A1 development board, featuring a classic Arduino pinout, plus all the extra IO pins broken out to headers. The board is Open Source Hardware under the Creative Commons 3.0 Share-Alike Attribution license.
Hardware files, such as the schematics, Eagle schematic, and board files can be found at the download site: http://dl.stackfoundry.org/hardware/megavore/
You can pick amongst the following header options:
Note: the PDI header is ALWAYS populated.
Features
The AVR XMEGA microcontrollers REQUIRE a PDI programmer to do in system programming. They do NOT support the SPI-based programming mode. We suggest the $30 AVRISPmkII from Atmel, sold by DigiKey amongst other places. This programmer is 100% compatible with all Atmel devices, unlike other third-party tools.

You can pick amongst the following header options:
- No headers: Bare 0.1 inch center holes on the board for your convenience (because desoldering headers is never easy)
Arduino Female Headers: Comes with high-stacking-height female 0.1 headers, in the style of the Arduino boards. Only the Arduino compatibility headers are populated- All Female Headers: The same Arduino headers on all of the IO ports.
- Male Headers: Male 0.1" headers on all pins
Note: the PDI header is ALWAYS populated.
Features
- An Atmel AVR xMEGA 128A1, running at up to 32MHz
- A USB to serial adapter, using the venerable FTDI FT232R chip
- All of the pins not in use for crystals and power available on 0.1 inch headers
Arduino-compatible 0.1 inch pin headers, allowing you to plug in many pre-existing shields from any 3.3V compatible Arduino- All of the normal support parts, including a 3.3V 1 amp linear regulator, power connectors, USB-B connector, etc
